Entrepreneurs are seizing opportunities

Figures from the banks show that 13,632 start-up accounts were opened between June 2009 and June 2010. The most popular sectors were professional services and construction, accounting for 20 per cent and 14 per cent of the new accounts opened.

Lending to small firms cut by a third

Bank lending to small businesses in June was over a third lower than in the previous year, despite the British Bankers’ Association (BBA) claiming that its members were making loans of around £27m to small businesses every day.
